This thing is very fast, opening and closing applications is quick, the screen is incredibly responsive, there is no lag while typing, and the built in Safari browser does a great job of quickly loading even graphic intense pages. The iPad is an impressive device that might make for a reasonable replacement of a netbook for casual users. For people who need something to really do a lot of work on, you may find that for the price that a netbook or laptop still offers the better value for your needs. Future generations of this device will probably transition into fitting that market better than this first generation. However, if you're an avid reader, casual gamer, music fan, who doesn't do much more on the web than check a few sites, and e-mail. This thing is definitely worth considering! If you're on the fence, nothing about this product is so incredible as to justify running out and buying one right now, but it is worthy of your consideration if you're thinking you might like a tablet style device. I definitely would encourage you to go play with one at best buy or an apple store to get a feel for it. With a number of competitors due out over the next few months we're likely to see some price movement, or a second generation release, so it may be worth it to wait it out a little while.

External appearance and feel:

The iPad2 screen has a different feel from the Xoom screen - the iPad2 is a bit slicker, less likely to stick when moving short distances. The screen on the Xoom tends to show fingerprints more than the Ipad2 for some reason. Everyone in this family thinks that the iPad2 looks sharper than the Xoom.

Both weigh 1.6 lbs. Subjectively, the Xoom feels heavier than the Ipad2, but it's an illusion perhaps caused by it's slightly smaller size. UPDATE: I need to learn to use the scales - the Xoom is about 3 ounces heavier than the iPad2.

Both have a similar size screen, measured diagonally. But the aspect ratio is different - 4:3 for iPad2, 16:9 for Xoom. This means that the iPad2 actually has a larger viewing area, and this makes a real difference when scrolling through a web site. The iPad2 screen is brighter than the Xoom screen.

Hardware performance:

The Xoom feels a bit faster than the iPad2, and the specs show that it is faster. Both have dual core processors based on ARM designs. The Xoom seems to be able to handle graphics better than the iPad2. As far as connecting to Wifi networks, both seem to have this one down pat - they both just work.

User Interface:

The iPad2 is just like a big iPhone. Whether this good or bad is subjective. For me, it's good - polished, flexible and can be customized to my needs. The Xoom user interface is totally new, and unfortunately it shows - there are many rough edges. Some examples: moving icons around to group programs together is not intuitive and they keep moving back; you can see the first 5 applications running on the Xoom and select one, but the list doesn't scroll so applications that don't show in the list can't be selected; you can't close applications (except by a force quit that can lose data) as the Xoom decides when to quit an application; customization is possible but more difficult than the iPad2. In short, the Xoom user interface is a work in progress - great potential but currently quite flawed.

Operating System:

The iPad2 uses Apple's IOS. It works, but it uses cooperative multitasking which (in theory) is less effective than the full multitasking on the Xoom which uses a version of Google's Android designed for tablets. In practice, they both work fine and I doubt anyone would notice the difference.

Applications:

iPad2 has 70,000 apps available from the Apple App store and it also runs the 300,000 apps available for the iPhone. Xoom currently has around 60 apps and it can run Android phone apps (but they are stretched in one direction which makes them look strange). Some of the iPad2 applications are pretty impressive - GarageBand for example. There are many games on the iPad2, and just a few games made for the Xoom. If this doesn't improve quickly, the Xoom is sunk. After all, applications are generally the reason people buy these devices.

I've been learning to play bass with this model for about a year and a half, and I enjoy it thoroughly. It's lighter than some instruments, but still has enough mass that it has a good tone. The neck is maybe not as slender as some fancier, faster basses, but it's still quite comfortable. It stays in tune well, and I've never had any troubles with the knobs or electronics.

With only a single pickup, and just knobs for volume and treble, you don't have much flexibility in sound. If you're just learning or playing for fun, this isn't much of an issue. The bass sounds great for a variety of jazz, blues and rock. One person I play with thinks the tone from this bass is nicer than one of his that cost about eight times as much.

A couple of other thoughts... You'll want to find a local guitar store to help you make adjustments periodically (and perhaps with initial setup), or learn to do it yourself. I use a Behringer practice amp, and it's partially responsible for the good tone that I seem to get. Finally, I rarely use a pick - if that's more your style, the lack of a pick guard might be an issue for you.

The sound quality still isn't that great, but much much better from my older camera. It seems like it balances the audio in the first few seconds. If the first few seconds are loud, the whole video will be softer. If you start out soft, however, you bury the needle when it gets lounder leading to some distortion. You also can't zoom while in video mode - something they don't tell you.

I purchased this monitor to go with my MacPro 15" laptop. Because of all the great Amazon reviews, I was all ready to buy a Samsung for about $100 more, but when I saw how crisp and clear my boss's HP display was I changed my mind and purchased the HP L2208w. I love it! The color is a little cooler than my laptop display but it's totally adjustable through the Monitor>Color>Calibration>Advanced control panel. The display is crisp with full color and saturation ranges and nice deep blacks for photograph editing. It took about 3 minutes to get it out of the box, plugged in and in use. At first I used it in duel monitor mode with my laptop but now, most of the time I just leave my laptop closed and use the HP as my sole monitor. It coordinates nicely with my laptop and Apple keyboard too. The only thing I don't like about it is the adjustment controls. I can't actually see any labels or icons on them to give a clue what does what, though I think they are there, they're so faint I can't see them. That said, there are an ABUNDANCE of adjustments you can make, everything you can thing of, and if you click around enough, you'll eventually get it exactly where you want it. It's a really great monitor at a fantastic price and I couldn't be happier with it.

I purchased 3 of the S45 handsets and a S450 base approx 2 months ago and every phone has performed flawlessly. Before buying the system I read reviews of numerous phones, went to stores to hold the handsets of many of the phones, and reviewed the literature on the manufacturers' websites. In the end, I bought this phone with the belief that it would probably have issues, but I could always return it to Amazon if it did. Needless to say, the only complaint is from my wife who initially complained that the phones were so robust that it was difficult to figure them out -- while this may seem true, think of these phones as a close relation to a cell phone.

Regarding the complaints I have read; let me address the following ones:

1. ISSUE: It is impossible to switch from 1 call to another with call waiting -- you have to hang up on the existing caller. SOLUTION: Simple, depress the "Flash" button on the lower left corner of the phone and easily switch between 1 caller and another. Additionally, this phone has the ability to take an incoming call and immediately conference it in with your existing call -- a great feature if your usage is SOHO.

2. ISSUE: When using with a DSL line the quality of the call is sub par. SOLUTION: Any phone that is used with a DSL line is suppose to be used in conjunction with a DSL phone line filter -- these should be used with every phone jack which is utilized throughout a home.

3. ISSUE: Cannot mute a caller, rather the mute operation places the person on hold. SOLUTION: This is a true shortcoming of a phone, but not a problem for me. Whenever I need to mute a call it is usually because I am multitasking and when multitasking I always wear a headset, so I just mute the headset and viola, nobody can hear me but I can hear them.

4. ISSUE: A standard headset does not work on the phone. SOLUTION: I do not know what the problem is since I read the manual and a Plantronics headset is approved for use with the phone. While the approved headset is not easily found here, I have 3 different type Plantronics headsets and all work flawlessly. One recommendation, though, the sound quality of this phone is better than anything you have probably ever used (this goes for outgoing voice too), as such, you need to purchase a headset that has a microphone with adjustable volume and use the lowest setting. Otherwise, the person on the other end may complain that your voice is gargled.

5. ISSUE: The phone is light and cheap feeling. SOLUTION: I do not know about you, but I do not want to carry around a 5 lb. metal phone just because it feels substantial. When I am on the move in my home I like to clip the phone to me and the lighter the better. With reference to feeling cheap, the phone is well made, has solid keys and a color screen -- ergo, I do no see anything "cheap" about it.

6. ISSUE: The buttons often miss or skip numbers. SOLUTION: If you are used to a cheap phone, then you will have this problem -- a cheap phone has keys that can be depressed with barely touching the pad. A well made phone, on the other hand, requires you to fully depress the key pad. Does this mean you cannot type numbers as quickly ... the answer is "yes" if you insight on wanting to only brush your hand against the key pad rather than fully depressing the key.

7. ISSUE: "This has to be the most frustrating phone ever when it comes to messages. You are forced to listen to the female voice say the date and time (Which is visible right on the screen, so no need to say it), and then to skip to the next message you HAVE to hear all of it again. It would have been much better to be able to skip the voice over or make it an option to turn it off." SOLUTION: This sounds like a user voicemail issue as the phone does not speak, maybe some other Siemens does. It does, however, allow you to set the "1" key to speed dial your home voicemail -- just like your cell number. And you can program in pauses, so when depressing and holding the "1" key or checking voicemails from the blinking voicemail indicator, you need only press one button.

8. ISSUE: The message light does not work. SOLUTION: The phones have a message light and it works -- I have used the phone in our house and recommended it to a friend in another state who uses another carrier (between the 2 of us we have 7 phones and all work). Make certain your carrier provides the service as some do not and some carrier is some areas offer this as an option.

9. ISSUE: The built in clock is inaccurate. SOLTUION: I have none as this is true. For some unknown reason Siemens decided not to allow the phone to obtain time stamp information from the incoming calls, so the phone loses time -- about 1 minute every 5 to 7 days. Does this annoy me enough to not buy the phone: "No"? My $3,000 computer system does not automatically update its clock from the internet, though it is more accurate. Needless to say, I would not junk my computer; besides, when was the last time you relied solely on your home phone to tell time???

In short, this phone has more capabilities than I can list here. It does take some time to figure it all out, but once you have you will wonder how you ever lived with another phone. Lastly, the audio quality of the phone rivals anything you have every used before.

This television is truly something to be admired. I'd say it's also a work of art.

I have a high definition cable box with an HDMI cable to the TV and the HD channels are superb. I mean, the picture is totally 100% crystal clear. I have windows behind me and somehow there is virtually no glare. Yes, the TV looks better when it is dark outside versus light outside but it's perfectly great when it is light outside.

I'm writing this review on my couch. My laptop is connected to the TV via a VGA cable with a wireless keyboard and mouse. Unfortunately my laptop does not have HDMI but I can see very well with the VGA cable. Needless to say, I am going to become much more lazy as a result of this TV.

The 40 inches is great for my viewing pleasure. I'm sure 46 is bigger but I am 100% content with 40 inches. It comes down to price. I did not want to pay more than $1,200 for a TV (that's $100 a month for 12 months using the Amazon Store Card). So this was a no-brainer for me.

If you are in the market for a TV, I highly suggest this one. It is truly a wonderful TV.

The "only" thing that isn't 100% perfect is the sound. The sound is good mind you, but it is not as perfect as the picture. But for the record, I have not played with the equalizer which people report helps the sound.

This is an amazing TV.

UPDATE 6/12/2008: This is still a remarkable television. I don't have any complaints about it at all. Even the sound is perfectly fine. However, you MUST either have a Blu Ray player or an Upconvert player with an HDMI cable to get the full benefit. Everything looks and sounds perfect on this TV.

UPDATE 7/13/2008: The TV is still perfect so just buy it already! I actually bought a 26" 3-series for my bedroom. I don't notice too much of a difference; I am happy with this "worse" TV as I am with my living room TV (this one). Samsung makes an excellent LCD television!

I've just started working with SBA and am impressed with some of the features. As a long time QuickBooks user, I have always wanted to have a contact management software program to integrate with QuickBooks. I just didn't want to spend the 60 to 100 dollars and have an add-in that will not work when QuickBooks introduces a new version.

Along comes SBA, and it fully integrates with Outlook with Business Contact Manager. Since I already use Outlook, no problem. In addition, this program has different price level capability, which is nice. It also allows a discount to be applied without having to create a Discount account in the chart of accounts. Sharing is easier than QuickBooks. You won't receive the message that SBA must be in single user mode to run some task (making it necessary for all other users to exit QuickBooks).

An SDK (Software Development Kit) is available for downloading at no charge, making it easy to program using VB.net. Invoices can be created in Word, almost all reports can be exported to Excel, and most built-in reports are fine for daily use.

You can import QuickBooks data, but you'll need version QuickBooks 2004 or 2005 to import transactions. ADP payroll can be integrated into SBA for $169 per year. Direct deposit or write you employee paychecks. This is by far the best German language software on the market today. I had been attending German classes through Berlitz but due to time and monetary constraints, I had to pursue other alternatives. I reviewed both the Rosetta Stone and Pimsleur software but found them lacking for my needs. I wanted the ability to go beyond the basics. The u740 is a dual hinge phone. It opens two ways: one like a standard flip phone and two like a laptop, from the side. When you open it like a standard flip phone, you'll see a nice D-Pad with a big "OK" button in the middle accompanied with two gray pre-set buttons to access Menu and Contacts or choose options while using the camera, etc. You'll also see small numbers with the standard texting system (pqrs, etc.) highlighted in gray. These buttons are also on the keyboard once you flip it the other way, revealing a full-scale QWERTY keyboard. When you're not typing a text message or in memo form, the gray buttons will act as numerical buttons in order for you to call people from the sideways-opening feature. It's a bit of a problem here, because calling people from the sideways feature requires you to remember your numbers all over again because they're sideways. (See the next paragraph for solutions...) The QWERTY keyboard is accompanied by a num lock button, which allows you to type in buttons to access symbols and numbers while texting. It makes it an easy and fluid feature.

The keyboard is a bit cramped, though, but there are some new features that come with the phone that make life a lot easier. For one, most new VZW phones come with VoiceSignal, a voice command feature that allows you to speak through the speakerphone to call people and translate your voice into a text message. "Dictate Message" allows you to say words you'd like to include in a text without typing--it requires a 3 minute session for VoiceSignal to become familiar with your voice. And, as long as you train it properly, it will say basic words right. But, longer words (such as "banana") take so much time. It took me 13 words to actually get banana, which was actually pretty sad. The feature isn't the best, but it's a step up. VoiceSignal allows you to call out numbers and people and have your phone immediately call them. This works great when you flip the phone sideways so you don't have to memorize typing numbers sideways.

Like most Verizon phones today, the u740 includes the full workings of the popular (argumentatively) VCAST service, which features Music, Video, Games, and News for download (for a fee). It also allows you to buy ring tones through applications for small fees and use VCAST Song ID, Verizon's latest technology that allows you to identify songs that are playing. This feature is rewarding and handy when you're on the road and here something you like, but it takes some time (I'd say about a minute in total). Unless you're an absolute music junkie, you might just want to go along your way and forget about it. The VCAST service only works in the sideways flip form, which is a bit odd. This phone has a nice speaker and could serve as a great music phone, except for the exclusion of the standard 2.5mm port. It comes with a headset adaptor that you plug in to the charger slot. Then, you must find the smaller headphones (or even get a different adapter for the standard port), which seems too much of a hassle to me. And, to download music from your PC to the u740 requires a VCAST Music package, which retails for $30.

The u740 has a decent camera (1.3MP) that takes great photos when the lighting is right. It also has a teeny stamp screen on the front, and I think that Samsung should have made the front screen a bit bigger. (The LG VX8600 has a lovely front screen that allows you to view texts from the front) And, it includes pre-set play, next song, and previous song buttons that are nice to use if you're listening to music. But, like all Verizon phones, you can't listen to any music while using other components of the phone, so it ain't that rewarding. On the sides of the phone, you have the charger slot, a handy microSD slot (for storing video, music, photos without having to go through the hassle of buying the VCAST music pack), a dedicated VoiceSignal button, a dedicated HOLD button, a volume rocker, but no dedicated camera button. This was quite surprising.

If you're looking at the u740, you've probably also looked at the VX990. If you have fat fingers and need to type on a full scale keyboard, the VX990 is probably for you, but at the same time, the u740 can fit in your pocket without revealing a big bump. The LG enV/VX990 cannot do that. This is why the phone is so enticing.

Overall, the u740 is a great phone that has really been good to me so far. Available in two colors, Champagne Gold or Black, the phone is sleek and sexy, thanks to its dual-hinge technology, QWERTY keyboard, and RAZR-like thinness. It's an attractive package and Verizon's best phone for texters. Right now, it retails for about $100.

While Office 2003 offered a refreshed look and some improvements in functionality, the basic structure remained the same. While veteran users were able to easily navigate the familiar menus, it had become increasingly difficult to locate some features (for instance, in Word, would you find "insert new rows" to a table in the "insert" or "table" menu?).

With Office 2007, Microsoft offers the "ribbon", a new and more intuitive way to access features that we used to find in the menus. While the features are basically the same, they are now grouped together according to when and how you would normally use them. The program ran fine on my Windows XP laptop, which only had 512 MB of RAM, and it runs even better on my Vista laptop with 2 GB of RAM.

As for which version of Office to buy, this is the third time I've opted for the Home and Student version (which has had other names in previous releases, but is still being sold for $149). I need Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and this is the most cost-effective way to get those programs. I was disappointed that Microsoft dropped Outlook from the Home and Student version. In order to continue to use Outlook, I installed Outlook 2003 and haven't had any problems.

Instead of Outlook, you get OneNote, a program that uses notebooks and tabs to save and organize all sorts of files and documents. I haven't had much time to play with OneNote yet, but the more I use it, the more impressed I am with it. It looks like one of those programs that you can personalize to meet your own needs and not have to fight with it to get it to do what you want.

This is a significant upgrade and should allow all users, new and experienced, to work more efficiently and quickly.

The Samsung LN52A650 is spectacular. I have had the tv for two weeks (having purchased through Amazon.) Deep blacks have really improved my picture from all sources. This TV also handles SD signals well. I was afraid that my Wii video might look more aliased ("jaggies"), but it handles it very well.

Bluray is like no other. I love the auto motion plus (120Hz technology), but it does take time to get used to at first. The picture is SO smooth that it makes movies have a documentary feel to them. It looks live. I think Americans (like me) in general, aren't used to that live feel for movies. After careful observation, it is superior, and I shudder when I switch the 120Hz off because it is so chopped up looking in comparison. 1080i sources are also greatly improved because of this and feel more like a progressive scan source. Video games on the PS3 look great too.

The only disappointment I have is that the Optical audio output will only route Stereo audio coming from a 5.1 digital source (via HDMI). The only time it will output 5.1 digital (or higher) is from an off-air coax connection. Lame eh? This hasn't hurt me because I can just hook them directly to my sound system, but I was hoping for a smaller cable mess.

Best picture quality hands down. It is very close to plasma TVs so don't get a plasma; they are heavy, dim, and have possible issues of fading (needs recharging) and screen-burn. Most Blurays (and other widescreen movies) don't come to you in a full 16:9 frame, which means there will be letterbox bars. This can damage a plasma screen, but you can leave an LCD on all day.

I have had my Acer Ferrari 4000 for about a year now, I have to tell you, not one single problem with it. I have had other users in my company with less expensive Acers, and some of those have died, but you get what you pay for with a $600 laptop. However, we have had no issues sending them back in for repair...usually new motherboards. Ferrari is very sturdy and durable, very fast. I am running Vista Ultimate and Office 2007, no problems. Every feature works perfectly, bluetooth, wifi, everything. I would recommend a Ferrari to anybody, but not a less expensive Acer in the $600-$800 range. Beats all the Dells, HPs, and IBMs we have in the office.
